The fins on the side of our camping grill help to keep wind from blowing your fire out, and it also keeps any of your cooking fats contained.

I’m sure using some other type of metal frying pan would work in a pinch, but from my experience, any other type of pan often warps in the high heat. Bonus tip, cover your cast iron with aluminum foil while its cooking to keep the eat in the pan.

We often leave canned goods and other items that don’t require refrigeration in a sealed tote in the car with the windows rolled completely up.
Trust me when I say that you want the windows all the way up because big animals like bears will absolutely break your windows if they want to get in to your vehicle for food.
Perishable Food
Keeping food at the proper temperature will keep you and your fellow campers from getting sick. Make sure to keep cold items cold until they are ready to be cooked and consumed.
Many state or national parks have a camp store on site that often sells ice, but you should always check ahead to make sure that you have plenty to keep your food cold.
Pro tip, we freeze bottles and jugs of water prior as we are prepping for the trip. We add the bottles and jugs to the bottom of the cooler, and it keeps the food on top cold.
Another thing about your cooler is that you do not want your ice and your food to mix. It seems all good and well when you are packing the food on top of the ice, but as the ice melts, your easy breakfasts quickly get ruined by lots of water.
We use small baskets that fit snuggly in the top of the cooler to hold the food, but a plastic bag (like a Ziploc bag) can also keep the water out in a pinch.
There is nothing worse than an early morning wakeup only to find that your once dry ingredients are now a mushy mess.
